COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Tuesday morning

India’s coronavirus tally on Tuesday rose to 4,40,215 with 14,933 new cases in 24 hours. The toll climbed to 14,011 with 312 new deaths.

1. 14,933 fresh coronavirus cases surfaced in India in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 4,25,282 on June 23, Tuesday.

2. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that the country has recorded 312 new deaths. With the latest COVID-19 related deaths, the fatalities count climbed to 14,011.

3. As per the 8 am update of the health ministry, there are 4,40,215 positive cases in the country, 1,78,014 are active cases, while 2,48,189 patients have been cured/discharged.

4. Maharashtra continues to report maximum number of coronavirus cases in the country. 3,721 new COVID-19 infections were recorded in the state, taking the tally to 1,35,796. The state added 113 deaths taking the fatalities to 6,283. There are 61,807 active cases and 67,706 people have been cured/discharged.

5. With COVID-19 tally crossing the 62,000-mark, Delhi now has the highest number of cases after Maharashtra. Delhi has overtaken Tamil Nadu to become the second worst-hit by coronavirus among various states. 2,909 more people tested positive for the deadly contagious virus in the national capital on Monday. As per the union health ministry, Delhi has 62,655, out of which 23,820 are active and 36,602 have recovered from the deadly virus infection. The death toll from COVID-19 stands at 2233.

6. A total of 71.37 lakh samples have been tested for the coronavirus by the Indian Council of Medical Research so far. Of these, 1.87 lakh samples were done on Monday.

7. The tally of coronavirus cases in Odisha, where the Rath Yatra festival began on Tuesday, rises to 5,470 after 167 more infections were reported in a day, ANI reports.

8. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to continue the supply of 5 kg free foodgrains to “priority households” for another three months. She has also demanded that the Centre issue temporary ration cards to all such households to address the hunger crisis amid the coronavirus pandemic.

9. Arunachal Pradesh’s tally rises to 126 after nine people tested positive, reports PTI. The state now has 44 active cases, while 22 patients have recovered from the disease, says Surveillance Officer L Jampa.
