IMD Issues Orange Alert For Karnataka’s Coastal Districts Till June 17

Date:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the coastal districts of Karnataka till June 17 as the entire state is very likely to experience widespread rainfall.

“Entire Karnataka state is very likely to experience widespread rainfall from June 13 to 17. Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshin Kannada, Shivamogga and Chikmagalur are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall for which orange alert is announced from June 13 to 17,” said director of IMD unit of Bengaluru, CS Patil.

In addition, orange and red alerts are announced for Saturday and Sunday when the region is expected to receive heavy rain.

The new alert is issued in the wake of the low pressure that has developed in the Bay of Bengal. Scattered rains are also pouring over old Mysuru districts including the capital city Bengaluru.

Besides, the weather department has also anticipated heavy rainfall on Friday in several parts of the country as it said a low-pressure region has shaped over the northwest Bay of Bengal and connecting Odisha just as Gangetic West Bengal coasts.

The climate department said hefty to weighty precipitation is likely at a couple of spots with amazingly substantial downpours at disconnected places over Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over Konkan & Goa and at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam & Meghalaya, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra (ghat areas), Telangana and Coastal Karnataka,” it said.
