No One Does Such Things On Purpose: Tharoor Apologises For Manifesto Blunder

Date:

New Delhi: Congress presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor on Friday issued a clarification over the map blunder in his manifesto.

Tharoor said it was unintentional and a mistake by volunteers. The Congress leader joined the contest for Congress president as he filed his nomination earlier in the day and released the manifesto.

“Re the troll storm on a manifesto map: No one does such things on purpose. A small team of volunteers made a mistake. We rectified it immediately and I apologize unconditionally for the error,” the Congress MP said in a tweet.

He also shared the link to the revised manifesto.

He previously presented a “distorted map of India” in his electoral program, omitting portions of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. He showed the distorted map of India while discussing the “decentralization of the organisation.”

Later Tharoor rectified the goof-up by replacing it with the correct map of India in his election manifesto.

Amit Malviya of the BJP referred to Tharoor as a “repeat offender” and gave evidence of another case in which the Congressman had distorted the Indian map. Malviya referred to it as a “mutilated map” and suggested that Tharoor may have been trying to “find favor” with the Gandhis to “dismember” the nation with Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharat Jodo Yatra”.

Malviya said, “While Rahul Gandhi is supposedly on a Bharat Jodo Yatra, wannabe Congress President is hell-bent on dismembering India. Maybe he thinks this might help find favor with the Gandhis.”

Communication in charge Jairam Ramesh said the BJP was scared of the rising popularity of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and was using the map as an excuse to target the party and tarnish Rahul Gandhi’s image.
