Date:

London: Two climate change activists tossed two cans of tomato soup over Vincent Van Gogh’s famous ‘Sunflowers’ painting at London’s National Gallery on Friday.

The video that surfaced internet showed two young girls are seen removing their jackets to reveal their t-shirts saying “Just Stop Oil,” throwing soup at the painting and then putting their fingerprints on the gallery wall.

However, museum authorities have assured that the original painting was unharmed as it was encased in a glass cover.

“What is worth more, art or life?” said one of the activists, “Is it worth more than food? More than justice? Are you more concerned about the protection of a painting or the protection of our planet and people?”

The Just Stop Oil group wants the British government to cease new oil and gas projects.

‘Sunflowers’ is one of Van Gogh’s most iconic works. the painting has an estimated cost of USD 84.2 million (Rs 8.42 crore). Van Gogh was known for using oil paint as a medium of expressing his art.
