Fact Check: RaGa Did Not Surpass PM Modi In Popularity Survey; Don’t Fall For FAKE Graphic

Date:

A set of graphics attributed to Hindi news channel Aaj Tak is doing rounds on social media drawing a comparison between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral with a claim that Rahul’s popularity has increased as compared to PM Modi’s owing to the  ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The caption of the graphic reads: “भारत जोड़ो यात्रा के बाद लोकप्रियता के सर्वे ने सारे रिकॉर्ड तोड़ दिये अब राहुल गांधी जी की लहर नही आंधी चल रही है जय कांग्रेस तय कांग्रेस राहुल गांधी जिंदाबाद #BharatJodoYatra #RahulGandhiForPM”

(English Translation: After Bharat Jodo Yatra, popularity survey broke all records, now there is no wave of Rahul Gandhi, there is a storm, Jai Congress fixed Congress Rahul Gandhi Zindabad Long live Rahul Gandhi #BharatJodoYatra #RahulGandhiForPM)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be false.

After closely observing the elements on the graphic we noticed the headline ‘Desh Ka Mizaz’. Taking a cue from that, we ran a keyword search. The search led us to a tweet by Aaj Tak dated January 25, 2019, which carried a bulletin about a survey they conducted about popularity of the two leaders ahead of the 2019 general elections.

In the bulletin, we noticed several commonalities with the graphic in question.

At the 2:02 minute time counter, we can see the graphic with Rahul Gandhi’s picture with 52% which is actually about the best replacement for Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister which Rahul led the charts with 52% votes.

As far as popularity goes, PM Modi led with 46% while Rahul Gandhi got 34% votes in the survey.

Meanwhile, in a tweet dated October 13, 2022, Aaj Tak clarified that the channel has not conducted any such survey in the recent past and the claim attached to it is FAKE.

In conclusion, the above information establishes that the post in question is FAKE.
