T20 World Cup: Defending Champions Australia Knocked Out As New Zealand, England Moves To Semis

Sydney: In a dramatic turn of events, Australia, the defending champions and hosts of the ongoing T20 World Cup have been knocked out of the tournament after England beat Sri Lanka.

In the game, Australia needed Sri Lanka to defeat England which would lead them to qualify for the next round from the group.

England in a terrific bowling performance concluded the Sri Lankan innings with 142 runs on board. Mark Wood had an exceptional day with the ball as he picked up three wickets. Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Ben Stokes, and Sam Curran managed to secure one wicket each.

England’s dependable all-rounder Ben Stokes once again played a sublime inning of 42 runs and returned not out. Alex Hales contributed 47 runs in the chase.

With this, New Zealand and England move on to the next stage of the tournament and will play the much-awaited semi-finals.

Things are pretty smooth for table toppers in Group 2 with the next encounter against Zimbabwe.
