Japan Imposes Mandatory COVID Testing For Arrivals From China

Date:

Tokyo: Amid the recent surge in the number of COVID-related cases in China, Japan has imposed mandatory testing for COVID-19 from December 30 for travellers arriving from China.

According to a report by the Kyodo news agency, the measure will be applied to travellers from mainland China and those who have visited the country within the past seven days.

The testing of the passengers will be done once they land in Japan and those who will test positive will be quarantined for seven days.

China saw a record increase in local COVID-19 outbreaks. Due to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation, the authorities introduced partial lockdowns in some areas while also forcing their residents to undergo PCR testing on a daily basis.

According to an NHK World report, the Embassy of Japan in Beijing has said that many employees of Japanese firms operating in China are getting infected with COVID and are being asked to work from home.
