Thousands Of Flights In US Affected Amid System Failure | Top Updates

Washington: Amid the massive system outage affected flights across the United States after being grounded, the White House briefed US President Joe Biden in connection with the situation on the ground.

After a computer outage by the Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday, flights across the United States were grounded.

According to a CNN report, 1,200 flights to, from, and within the United States were delayed as of 6.45 am ET while 93 flights have been cancelled.

The FAA took to Twitter and added “some functions are beginning to come back on line, National Airspace System operations remain limited.”

Earlier today, the FAA on the website said that the Notice to Air Mission (NOTAM) system had “failed” on Wednesday. NOTAM is a notice issued to share important information to pilots and people involved in flight operations.

  • Karine Jean Pierre, White House Press Secretary added that “The President has been briefed by the Secretary of Transportation this morning on the FAA system outage.”
  • She further added, “There is no evidence of a cyberattack at this point, but the President directed DOT to conduct a full investigation into the causes.”
  • FAA in a tweet added that “Normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the U.S. following an overnight outage.”
  • FAA further added that “We expect departures to resume at other airports at 9 a.m. ET.”
  • The authority added that “All flights currently in the sky are safe to land. Pilots check the NOTAM system before they fly.”
  • A senior DGCA official speaking with ANI added that “Operations are normal at all the airports in India and as of now there is no impact on flights from India to the US amid a glitch.”
