Fact Check: Morphed Post With Altered “Raghupati Raghav Rajaram” Lyrics Goes Wild With Fake Claims

Date:

India successfully hosted the G20 Summit this year, attended by many world leaders like US President Joe Biden, British PM Rishi Sunak, etc. On September 10, the G20 leaders paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi.

Meantime, a video of PM Modi arriving at Rajghat with the heads of state of G-20 has gone viral on social media. It is being claimed that the lyrics in the video are as follows: “Raghupati Raghav Rajaram Patit Pavan Sitaram. Kaushalya ka pyara ram, Dashrath ji ka pyara ram.”

A Facebook user shared this video with a description: “वाह मोदी जी वाह..भारत वासियों को सही भजन सुनाने और वो भी राजघाट से…हर एक भारतीय के हृदय से धन्यवाद। ध्यान से सुनिए… इस भजन में “ईश्वर – अल्लाह तेरो नाम”, जो कि गांधी की देन थी… उसे हटा कर सही भजन बजवाया गया….. सारे राष्ट्रप्रमुखों के साथ….! और क्या चाहिए।“ [English translation: Wow Modi ji, wow, for singing the right hymns to the people of India, and that too, from Rajghat. Thanks from the heart of every Indian. Listen carefully… In this hymn “Ishwar – Allah Tero Naam”, which was Gandhi’s contribution… it was removed and the correct hymn was played… along with all the heads of state…what else do you want?]

This Facebook post can be seen here.

It is being widely shared on Facebook and X with a similar claim.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be false.

Running the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search, our team found the video of Rajghat on PM Narendra Modi’s official YouTube channel, dated September 10, 2023. In the video, at 6 minutes 58 seconds of timestamp, one can hear the viral lyrics. However, in the background of the video, the hymn “Raghupati Raghav Rajaram Patit Pavan Sitaram, Ishwar Allah Tero Naam, Sabko Sanmati De Bhagwan” can be heard. It should be noted that the songs and lyrics in the original video are different from those in the viral video.

The official PMO YouTube handle, dated September 10, also carries the same video. Bhajan with lyrics “Raghupati Raghav Rajaram Patit Pavan Sitaram, Ishwar Allah Tero Naam, Sabko Sanmati De Bhagwan” can be heard in this video, suggesting that the viral video is edited.

Searching for the lyrics of the viral video, we came across a video on YouTube, dated November 18, 2021. In this video, at 1:33 seconds of timestamp, one can hear the part of the viral lyrics used in Rajghat.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video is morphed by using a software tool.
