Maharashtra: 12 People Killed, 23 Injured As Mini-Bus Hits Container On Samruddhi Expressway

Maharashtra: Over 12 people were killed and 23 others sustained injuries when a high-speed mini-bus collided with a container on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, formerly known as Aurangabad.

As per the police, a private bus was carrying 35 passengers, 12 died at the accident spot. The victims include five men, six women, and a minor girl. 23 people sustained injuries and were hospitalized, according to officials.

An official said that the bus veered out of control, resulting in a rear-end collision with the container.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 am in the Vaijapur area of the expressway within the district, situated about 350 km from Mumbai, as per police information. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing grief for the lives lost in the Samruddhi Expressway accident, stated, “My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones”.

The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be provided to the families of each deceased, and those injured would receive ₹50,000.

In addition to this, the Maharashtra government has also declared a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased. The government, as per a statement from the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office, will cover the medical expenses for the injured.
