Sridevi-Jaya Prada end their 25-year cold war

Date:

The thaw has happened. Sridevi and Jaya Prada have made up thanks to politician and mediator Amar Singh.

For those came in late, Jaya Prada and Sridevi, both queens from South India, who entered Hindi cinema at about the same time, were at loggerheads for more than 25 years.

When they worked together in Tohfa and Maqsad in 1984 they didn’t speak a word to one another on the sets.

During Maqsad the film’s leading men Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra locked the two ladies together in one makeup room. When the doorwas opened an hour later the two ladies sat in two extreme corners staring in opposite directions.

For more than two decades, let alone sharing screen space, they refused to acknowledge one another’s presence in public. Until the Monday evening at the Lazy Dog pub.

According to an eyewitness, “Both the stunning ladies walked into Amar Singhji’s party within fifteen minutes of one another. Sridevi with husband Boney Kapoor and Jaya Prada with her political mentor Amar Singh. To everyone shock they shared the same table. Within minutes the two ladies smiled at one another and were talking. The 25-year old cold war was over.”

According to producer Sheetal Talwar in whose pub the historic cross-border bonding transpired, the Sri-Jaya reunion was on the cards for a while.

“Amar Singh who is very close to the Kapoors and to Jaya Prada must have been instrumental in the rapprochement.

Come on, the two ladies are not school girls fighting over the best seat in the class. They are mature and wise beautiful women. To see them chatting together was a sight for sore eyes.”
