Pak violates ceasefire in Kupwara & Poonch; 2 jawans injured

Date:

Srinagar: Two BSF jawans were injured in fresh incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Kupwara districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan on Wednesday resorted to unprovoked firing on the forward Indian positions in Nowgam sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, injuring two BSF jawans, an army official said.

“Pakistani troops targetted our positions along the LoC in Nowgam sector around 11 AM,” the army official said.

Pakistan also violated ceasefire in Poonch district last night, forcing the Indian side to retaliate, Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta said on Wednesday.

“Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations in forward areas of Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district from 2315 hours last night,” Mehta said.

“The area witnessed ceasefire violations by Pakistan army between 2315-0001 hours,” he said.

The forward posts of Pakistan fired towards the Indian side using automatics and heavy machine guns, he said.

“Our side retaliated appropriately but no casualty or damage were reported till reports last came in,” Mehta said.

Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire nine times in September this year and this is the second ceasefire violation in Nowgam sector during the past fortnight.

On August 25, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed when he was hit by a Pakistani sniper.
