Is directors turning villains the new trend in B’wood?

Date:

Mumbai: Lately, Bollywood directors have been coming in front of cameras, not for the role of a hero or a life saviour, but to play the roles of villains.

The recent entry into the list is of director Karan Johar, who will be seen as a bad boy in Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming movie ‘Bombay Velvet’. He is surely one of the surprise elements in the film.

Karan Johar says, “For me, being an actor was both surreal and exciting. And I had no problem being directed by Anurag. Our cinematic sensibilities are completely contrasting, so opposites attracted in the best way possible. I feel he has taught me a lot; it was like being in film school. I enjoyed being on the other side of the camera.”

Likewise, Tigmanshu Dhulia had played a villain in the cult film Gangs Of Wasseypur. His performance was one of the most powerful ones in the movie.

Amol Gupte, known for directing movies like ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’, played the baddie in ‘Kaminey’.

And now it will be Anurag Kashyap’s turn to play the role of a villain in a forthcoming film.
