Lewis Hamilton poised to match ‘idol’ Ayrton Senna’s record in Singapore GP

Date:

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton has expressed that it would be an honour to equal his Formula One idol Ayrton Senna’s record of 41 race win at the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix.

A victory would see the Mercedes driver not only match Senna’s feat in exactly the same number of races, but also increase his chances of equaling the late Brazilian’s feat of three world titles.

Hamilton said that he watched Senna as a child and it would be an honour to match him, adding that he was hoping to do even better than just breaking records, Sport24 reported.

Hamilton, who currently leads the drivers’ championship table by 53 points over nearest challenger Nico Rosberg, also conceded that Senna would have won a lot more races if he had been alive.

Brazilian Formula One driver Senna tragically passed away following a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
