6.6 magnitude quake hits Indonesia’s easternmost province

New York: An earthquake measuring 6.6 magnitude has hit waters off Indonesia’s easternmost province, injuring dozens of people and causing damage to the buildings.

According to ABC News, the earthquake was centered 28 kilometers north of Sorong, a town in Indonesia’s West Papua province, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Hundreds of people fled their homes in panic in Sorong and at least 39 people were hurt, mostly with broken bones.

Hundreds of people were evacuated to temporary shelters as authorities surveyed the damage.
