Government agrees to declassify #NetajiFiles

It’s a huge victory for the family of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as the Central Government has given the final nod to declassify Netaji files. Meeting Bose family at 7 RCR, Prime Minister assured them that the files on Netaji will be declassified and the first set will be done on 23rd January being the occasion of Bose’s birth anniversary.

Modi made the promise to Netaji’s 35 family members whom he hosted at his official residence here and declared that “there is no need to strangle history”

He said he will also urge foreign governments to declassify files on Netaji available with them by writing to them and personally taking up with foreign leaders during meetings, beginning with Russia in December.

Declaring that “there is no need to strangle history”, Modi said “Nations that forget their history lack the power to create it.”

The demands for declassification of secret files have been growing lately, especially after the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal recently declassified 64 files which were in its possession

“We had a remarkable & extensive interaction…I told Subhas Babu’s family members – please consider me a part of your family. They shared their valuable suggestions with me,” the Prime Minister said, while remarking that “it was a privilege to welcome” them to 7, Race Course Road, his official residence. .

The tea party was hosted for all the 35 members who went to meet the Prime Minister at 7RCR with Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh also present at the occasion.

The family sought the declassification of all the files related to Netaji, whose disappearance 70 years ago remains a mystery.

After meeting the Bose’s kin, PM Modi tweeted that he will also request the foreign governments to declassify Bose files available with them starting with Russia in December 2015.
