Bomb hoax sends Delhi Police into a tizzy

A phone call about three unattended bags lying on the busy Barakhamba Road here today sent Delhi Police into a tizzy.

The incident was reported around 2 PM and the caller informed police about the abandoned baggage spotted right outside Arunachal Building on Barakhamba Road, said a senior police officer.

A police team, along with bomb disposal squad, was rushed to the spot and the area was sanitised. However, no explosive or any other element which could cause threat was found in the bags, the officer said.

The police found some documents in one of the baggage and called up a few persons. One of them turned out to be a relative of the person, who is suspected to have left the baggage there, the officer said.

However, the police said that they could not communicate with the actual owner till late evening.

It is also possible that the bags were stolen and later dumped there by thieves after find no expensive article inside, said the officer.

“We can arrive at a conclusion only when we find the owner of the baggage,” the officer added.
