AIIMS whistleblower to head anti-graft committee

Date:

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is planning to appoint former chief vigilance office (CVO) of AIIMS, Sanjiv Chaturvedi, as the head of Delhi’s anti-corruption bureau.

Sources said that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government will approve the appointment on Saturday soon after taking the charge.

A senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that the first priority of the government, besides implementing its manifesto, will be to end corruption and Chaturvedi’s appointment will be AAP’s first big anti-corruption move.

In August last year, the Health Ministry had removed Sanjiv Chaturvedi as the CVO of saying he was not eligible for the post and the Chief Vigilance Commission (CVC) had not cleared his appointment.

In November last year, more than 200 faculty members, researchers and scientists of the premier medical institute had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding Chaturvedi’s reinstatement as chief vigilance officer.
