Coca-Cola suspends operations at Dasna bottling plant

New Delhi, Aug 19 (PTI) Operations have been suspended ata bottling plant of Coca-Cola India at Dasna in Uttar Pradeshafter state authorities alleged environmental violations bythe company. Confirming receipt of notice from Uttar Pradesh StatePollution Control Board (UPPCB), the company said it hassubmitted a detailed response to issues raised over the plant. "Since UPPCB is reviewing the response, to show ourcommitment to compliance with regulatory norms, we decide totemporarily suspend manufacturing at Dasna plant," HindustanCoca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd (HCCBL) said in a statement. Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages is the bottling arm ofCoca-Cola India. The company, however, insisted that all of its "plantsoperate in full compliance with all regulatory norms and Dasnaplant is no exception". Earlier this year, HCCBL had suspended manufacturing atthree locations in India citing absence of "long-term economicviability". The company has suspended manufacturing at Kaladera nearJaipur (Rajasthan), Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) andBrynihat (Meghalaya). HCCBL has 24 bottling plants at strategic locations invarious states spread across India and covers approximately 65per cent of bottling operations for the Coca-Cola System inIndia. PTI KRH RKL BJMR
