Court asks UP CM to appear for alleged model code violation

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 22 (PTI) A local court has issuednotices against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadavand three others Samajwadi Party leaders and directed them toappear on September 22 in a case of alleged model code ofconduct violation during Assembly election in 2007. Chief Judicial Magistrate Jitender Kumar issued summonsesagainst Akhilesh, UP minister Shahid Akhlak, the then SPcandidate Pramode Tyagi and SP leader Rajkumar, asking them toappear before him. On the direction of the Election Commission, police hadregistered a case against Akhilesh, Akhlak, Tyagi as well asother SP leaders Sanjay Singh and Raj Kumar under Section 171IPC at Khatoli town here on September 1, 2007, according toprosecution. It was alleged that Akhilesh, who had campaigned inKhatoli in support of Tyagi, had come with a large cavalcadein violation of rules. The court today asked the Chief Minister and others toappear on September 22. PTI CORRRT
