Kejriwal, Sisodia appear before court in defamation case

New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister ArvindKejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia appeared before a courthere today in connection with a criminal defamation complaintfiled against them by former union minister Kapil Sibal’s sonAmit Sibal. Kejriwal and Sisodia appeared before MetropolitanMagistrate Pankaj Sharma and cross-examined Amit Sibal. His testimony remained inconclusive and would continue onSeptember 17, the next date of hearing. Besides Kejriwal aqnd Sisodia, the complainant had alsonamed former AAP members Prashant Bhushan and Shazia Ilmi asaccused in the case. The court on September 20, 2014, had put all the fouraccused on trial for charge under section 500 (defamation) ofthe IPC. The accused had pleaded not guilty to the offence andclaimed trial. The court had on July 24, 2014, summoned Kejriwal,Sisodia, Bhushan and Ilmi in the criminal defamation casefiled by Amit Sibal, who is a senior lawyer. Sibal had alleged that the accused had said he had takenadvantage of his father’s position to represent a telecomcompany in the court cases here. PTI UK SKVARC
