Scorpene row won’t affect work with foreign support: Lanba

Mumbai, Sep 17 (PTI) The Scorpene data leak controversywon’t affect the ambitious project of building submarines inthe Indian dockyards with the help of foreign shipyards, Navychief Admiral Sunil Lanba said here today. He was speaking to reporters after the launch of newwarship Mormugao from Mumbai-based Mazagaon Dock ShipbuildersLtd. Under Project 75 I, Indian and foreign shipyards aresupposed to construct submarines in Indian dockyards. Theproject for building six submarines is estimated to be worthUSD 6 billion. "Defence ministry has decided that it (Project 75 I) is tobe part of a strategic partnership, where you have an overseastechnology partner. A committee formed last year hasidentified which Indian shipyards can participate in thebuilding and once the ministry decides on the statepartnership model, project 75 I model would move forward," hesaid.
