Pact signed for modernisation of Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: India and China signed three agreements on Wednesday, one of which is aimed at developing Ahmedabad on the pattern of the Chinese city Guangzhou. Another agreement is for setting up an industrial park in Gujarat.

Xi is on a three-day visit to India during which the two countries will focus on trade and investments. They will also discuss contentious issues like the border dispute.

The Chinese side has already indicated that it will pledge investments worth billions of dollars in India’s railway, manufacturing and infrastructure projects. 

Earlier, Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan, accompanied by a delegation of senior party and government officials, were received by Gujarat Governor O P Kohli and Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, and accorded a grand welcome at the airport.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed the visiting dignitary and his wife at the entrance of the Hyatt Hotel, after which they were showed an exhibition of Buddhist artefacts and slides.

Thereafter, the two leaders had a brief meeting before heading for the signing-in ceremony of the agreements, for giving a boost to Chinese investments.
