Chhetri stars as Bengaluru beat Kerala Blasters in late goal-fest

Date:

Sunil Chhetri’s penalty and Miku’s brace helped Bengaluru FC leave the disappointment of two successive home defeats away and beat Kerala Blasters 3-1 in ISL.

Riding on the home support, Kerala Blasters were hoping for a win to move up the points table but Sunil Chhetri and Miku scored as the hosts were comprehensively beaten by Bengaluru FC in the southern derby.

Down by 1-0 in the closing stages, ISL’s hero Ian Hume signalled their 12th man, the home crowd, to make some noise and they did but to no avail. Blasters instead conceded 2 more goals before finding a consolation goal.

A superb second half performance saw the visitors climb to third in the points table.

Sunil Chhetri once again showed his quality as he opened the scoring after converting a penalty, which he himself had earned in the first place, in the sixtieth minute. In a late flurry, when the Blasters tried to find the equaliser with more men committed forward, the prolific Miku added two more goals (90+3′, 90+5′) to his kitty to take his season’s tally to eight goals. For Blasters, Courage Pekuson netted a consolation goal just at the stroke of the final whistle.
