  • An international research team has discovered a pair of supermassive black holes in orbit around one another. This is the first time such a pair could be found in an ordinary galaxy. They were discovered because they ripped apart a star when ESA’s space observatory XMM-Newton (orbiting X-ray observatory) happened to be looking in their direction.

 

  • Celebrations are taking place across the country to mark the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare on April 23. He is considered by many to be one of the world’s greatest writers.   • Families of the passengers in the missing MH370 plane can now file a lawsuit in American courts against U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co. The move is a milestone because it now allows attorneys to move in. There is a 45-day federal law that says American lawyers have to wait that long to reach out to a family that has lost a loved one in a plane crash.

 

  • Three prominent astronauts supporting the B612 Foundation have now presented a visualization of new data showing the surprising frequency at which the Earth is hit by asteroids. Between 2000 and 2013, this network detected 26 explosions on Earth ranging in energy from 1 to 600 kilotons – all caused not by nuclear explosions, but rather by asteroid impacts.
