Arvind Saxena appointed as new Chairman of  UPSC

Arvind Saxena, on Wednesday, has been appointed as the new Chairman of  Union Public Service Commission.

UPSC is the institution responsible for conducting examination for selection bureaucrats, diplomats and police officers.

Saxena will be serving in the office till August 7, 2020, when he attains the age of 65 years, the official statement said.

Prior to this, he has been working as the acting head since June 20, 2018. He joined UPSC back in May 2015. Earlier, he has also worked as Director of the Aviation Research Centre (ARC).

A student of Civil Engineering at the Delhi College of Engineering and a M.Tech. in Systems Management from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi, he joined the Indian Postal Service in 1978. In 1988, Shri Saxena started working at the Cabinet Secretariat and has served in different countries and in the States of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh

The UPSC conducts civil services examination annually in three stages — preliminary, main and interview — to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
