IndVsAus: Bumrah, Harsha Bhogle slam trollers, defends Umesh Yadav

Date:

Umesh Yadav failed to defend 14 runs in the final over as India lost the first Twenty20 International (T20I) against Australia in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

Yadav, who bowled the final over, failed to soak the pressure as the Aussies clinched the match off the last ball.

People took to Twitter to troll him big time. There was no mercy as the pacer was ripped apart online.

While Umesh is being severely criticised, Bumrah, who conceded just two runs and took as many wickets in the 19th over of Australia’s innings, defended his fellow pacer saying the plans don’t always work during death bowling.

“You try your best, and you’re clear in your execution. Some days it works, some days it doesn’t. Nothing to be worried. We wanted to close the game in our favour but its okay,” Bumrah said at the post-match press conference.

“It’s a little different once you know your target. It was a small target, so once you hit one boundary then you don’t need to take a lot of risks. At first, we are still figuring out what is the safe total so I think that was a difference maybe. They were rotating the strikes after hitting a boundary,” Bumrah added.

Apart from Bumrah, Umesh Yadav found support in commentator Harsha Bhogle after his last over against Australia earned him flack on social media. “Am hearing terrible words like “villain” used in the context of the last over yesterday,” Bhogle tweeted, “The only villains in sport are those that have a stake in losing. The others, like us,have good days and bad; they win some, lose some. If you call someone a villain, you don’t understand sport”.

Earlier in the last match, opener KL Rahul’s scored a stylish half-century on comeback while Jasprit bumrah became the second man to take 50 T20I wickets for India.

The last two T20I series between both sides, in 2017 and 2018, have ended in a (1-1) draw.

India will look to bounce back in the second T20I which takes place on Wednesday, 27 February in Bangalore.
