Today, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh approved the use of chilli-filled grenades as a substitute to pellet guns, which will be used to control the crowd in Jammu and Kashmir but in rarest of rare cases.
According to an official source, the Home Minister has cleared the file for use of Pelargonic Acid Vanillyl Amide (PAVA) also called Nonivamide as a substitute to the pellet guns and 1,000 shells will reach Kashmir tomorrow.
The recommendation to use PAVA was made by a seven member’s experts committee, headed by Secretary in the Home Ministry TVSN Prasad. The report was submitted on 29 August 2016.
