What happened:

A terrorist attack on the Indian Army by fidayeen attackers, which left 17 army jawans martyred. Most of the martyred soldiers were from 10 Dogra and 6 Bihar regiments. Special forces and paratroopers were airdropped and killed all the four terrorists. Post incident, the town has been sealed.

Who:

The initial investigations indicates the involvement of Jaish-e-Mohammed as the weapons recovered from the terrorists have Pakistan marking.

Intelligence:

There are reports that such blasts was expected. Lt Gen SA Hasnain (retd), a former Brigade Commander in Uri himself, tweeted that just ten days back he had warned the present Brigade Commander in Uri about such an attack being in the offing.

Domestic Reactions:

Immediate reactions from major leaders poured in support of martyred and bereaved families. Stern action against terrorism and Pakistan to be taken. While former Home Secretary R.K. Singh said: “If you term it a terror attack then you are misleading yourself. These attacks are planned by ISI and Pakistan Army. Only way to handle these attacks is to hit back.”

International support:

Sympathies poured in soon. United States, Russia, France, Canada and Afghanistan joined several other countries in condemning the Uri attack.

Raised important questions:

Are we ready? Isn’t it the high time to respond against Pakistan. Options ranging from diplomatic, economic and military are weighed.
