Here’s what PM’s residence might be known as!

Date:

India’s most prestigious address may not be known as 7, Race Course Road much longer.

The street in New Delhi on which PM Narendra Modi lives may be renamed to “Ekatma Marg” if a BJP parliamentarian’s proposal would be accepted by the government.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi has written a letter to the Central Government that the current name of the road “does not match with Indian culture”.

The BJP leader said that renaming the road on which the prime minister lives is necessary for the sake of an appropriate tribute on the birth centenary of the party’s icon Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. The new name is motivated by the “Ekatma Manavavada” philosophy of former Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) president Deendayal Upadhyay whose birth centenary, is celebrating this year by the BJP led Government.

Last year, one of Delhi’s Aurangzeb Road was renamed after former president APJ Abdul Kalam, that showed mixed responses.

There was also a request to rename Akbar Road to Maharana Pratap Marg but the government nixed it.

The renaming of Gurgaon, the IT sector hub, to Gurugram left the government handling much criticism earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s CM Arvind Kejriwal and AAP has opposed the renaming of the road, saying that the renaming of the road should not reflect the ideology of the RSS.
