A loyal dog lost its life while trying to save its owner from a knife-wielding intruder. Lucky, as the dog was called by 26-year-old Sumiti Devendra, came in way of the intruder when he tried to come inside the house.
Devendra had brought Lucky home a year ago after her mother’s death. She told Hindustan Times, “After her sudden death, I was lonely and sad when Lucky came into our life. Kids playing in the area had dropped him at my doorstep. As he was alone and walked into my house, I adopted him.” Devendra lives in Antop Hill area of the city with her brother.

On the night of April 2, she heard some noises and when she came out of her house she found her neighbour, Venkatesh Devendra, arguing with his girlfriend Jyoti and her sister Rosy. According to reports, Sumiti Devendra reportedly said, “Their fight soon escalated and Venkatesh went to his home nearby and came back with a knife.”
Terrified Sumiti and Rosy rushed indoors. The reports said that Venkatesh barged into her house. When Sumiti pushed him out, he came at her with his knife. “My dog barked and charged at him. Venkatesh stabbed him.”
