Dortmund vs AC Monaco

Less than 24 hours after the original tie was postponed after three explosions went off near the Dortmund team bus as the team was making its way to Signal Iduna Park, the Ligue 1 leaders gained the advantage, all thanks to Kylian Mbappe‘s double and a Sven Bender own goal.

Questions were asked whether Dortmund would have been in the right state of mind to take the field so soon after the incident and with team-mate Marc Bartra in hospital having undergone surgery on an arm injury sustained in the blasts.

The second half was a different story and Ousmane Dembele and Shinji Kagawa goals either side of Mbappe’s second left it all-to-play-for ahead of the return leg in the Principality.

Mbappe, tipped to be the next big star of European football, was in full form from the off and showcased his pace and power as he earned a 17th-minute penalty.

He surged into the area and was felled by Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who received a booking, but Fabinho dragged his spot-kick well wide of the post.

Dortmund’s reprieve lasted just two minutes, however, as Monaco went ahead in the 19th minute, though there was more than a hint of luck involved.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid

Star striker Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice as Real Madrid edged past Bayern Munich 2-1 in the first leg of their Champion League quarter-final clash at the Allianz Arena here on Thursday.

It was Bayern who made the breakthrough first when Arturo Vidal smashed a bullet header in the 25th minute of the match.

Just two minutes after the break, Madrid levelled the score through Ronaldo‘s first goal in the tournament since September last year.

In the 77th minute of the match, the Portuguese striker pulled back his 100th goal in European competition to give Madrid a strong result to take back to the Santiago Bernabeu for the return fixture.

The match also saw Bayern’s Javi Martinez receive two yellow cards in the space of three minutes for fouling Ronaldo as he looked to break into the hosts’ half.

The two sides will now lock horns in the second leg of their last-eight tie on April 19.

Atletico Madrid vs Leicester City

Leicester City can, however, count themselves unlucky as replays showed the foul committed by Marc Albrighton on Griezmann for the penalty in the 28th minute of the game took place outside the area.

Atletico Madrid, chasing their third final appearance in four seasons, were on top for much of the encounter but Leicester remain well in contention to reach the semi-finals after restricting the Spanish team to just one goal, reports goal.com.

Diego Simeone‘s side were unable to turn their dominance into a more convincing win and Leicester, who overturned a first-leg deficit to knock out Sevilla in the last-16, will still have designs on another LaLiga scalp.

Griezmann has now been involved in 10 goals in his last 9 Champions League home games (eight goals, two assists).

The tie is intriguingly poised and all set for a big night in the second leg in Leicester next Tuesday.
