This everyday loo habit could weaken your bladder

Date:

Just before a long car trip or a long flight, we go to the loo, you know, just in case to avoid needing the toilet later on.

But it turns out that this habit could be bad for health. In fact, latest research by an expert suggest that this very habit could be responsible for weakening the bladder over time, said reports.

As per a clinical physiotherapy specialist in bladder and bowel dysfunction, Diane Wootton, “Many of us end up passing urine too frequently because we think, ‘I’d better go before I leave.’ But this pre-emptive behavior is a bad idea.”

She argues, “It means your bladder won’t ever fill to a normal level (more than 200ml) because it’s often being emptied. If it’s not stretched, it’ll weaken over time – meaning you really will need the loo all the time.”

The results of this can be bad. “Instead of needing the loo a normal amount of times per day (between four and 10 visits within a 24 hour period), you could find yourself far exceeding this.”

Dr Wootton says, “I once had a patient who went to the loo 22 times a day partly because of this habit.”
