A police case against Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor has been registered for allegedly cutting down of more branches than authorised by the civic authority. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Friday filed a complaint against the Veteran actor for chopping off six branches that were coming in the way of the construction of his new bungalow at Pali Hill in Bandra, police said on Saturday.

Kapoor had obtained permission for cutting six branches but it was found that more had been chopped off, said Ramchandra Jadhav, Senior Police Inspector of Khar Police Station.
Police had initially registered a non-cognizable (NC) offence against the actor, he said.

Now, a case has been registered against Kapoor under the Preservation of Trees Act, the official said, adding a probe was on.
Actress Raveena Tandon took to Twitter in support of Kapoor.
