Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell (KSNDMC) informed that the Southwest monsoon is likely to strike Karnataka on Tuesday or Wednesday. Although monsoon hit the Kerala coast as early as May 29 and was expected to advance to Karnataka, it was delayed due to two circulations in the Arabian Sea. Apart from the slight delay in kharif sowing, the delay may not have direct impact on the agriculture sector.

G S Srinivas Reddy, Director of KSNDMC had said that initially the signs were encouraging, when monsoon arrived in Andaman and Nicobar Islands six days ahead of schedule. “There’s been a delay in the southwest monsoon lashing the state because of a depression in the Arabian Sea, and the rain-bearing clouds from Kerala moving towards the west. From Tuesday, the clouds will not be driven towards the west anymore,” he said. He also added that the depression was likely to disappear by Monday night.
