Amid growing concerns over artificial intelligence-driven layoffs, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has said that AI is more likely to transform jobs rather than eliminate them, urging workers to adapt to evolving technologies.
Speaking on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Huang emphasized that jobs should not be confused with the tools used to perform them. “The purpose of your job and the tools you use are related, not the same,” he said, highlighting that technological change does not necessarily mean job loss.
He cited radiology as an example, a field once predicted to be replaced by AI. Instead, the number of radiologists has grown as AI tools enable faster analysis, improved diagnosis, and the ability to treat more patients, ultimately increasing demand for professionals.
Huang also noted that earlier fears of automation discouraged some from entering the field, contributing to a shortage of experts.
Drawing from his own experience of leading Nvidia for over three decades, Huang said while tools and tasks have evolved significantly, his core role has remained intact. He stressed that jobs involving human judgment and decision-making are less likely to be fully replaced.
Huang reiterated that adapting to AI is essential, warning that workers who fail to embrace the technology risk being outpaced. “You’re not going to lose your job to an AI, but to someone who uses AI,” he said at a recent conference.
