Luxury carmaker Skoda updated Octavia range has debuted in the Czech-Republic ahead of a global unveiling at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
Called the RS245 in Europe (as in 245 horsepower), it will be badged as RS180 (as in 180kW) in Australia.
As well as the extra punch from the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine (180kW/370Nm to 162kW/350Nm for the outgoing RS162 model), the newcomer scores the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, a electronically-operated limited-slip differential and optional dynamic chassis control.
Infotainment gets a boost with the availability of a 9.2-inch screen and an optional mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for constant ‘on-lineability’.

Styling sees the overall updates for the Octavia range – with a sporty twist. There is a black theme for the grille and air inlets in the unique front bumper, mirror housings and exhaust tailpipes as well as full LEDs for the adaptive headlights.
Sedan models get a bootlid spoiler while the wagon adds a tailgate spoiler.
Inside are sports seats in Alcantara, aluminium pedals, a perforated leather sports steering wheel (with heating function) and LED ambient lighting.

The RS rides on a chassis which rides 14mm lower than standard and employs a 38mm wider rear track. Good-looking 19-inch alloy wheels confirm its sporty aspirations.
Technical updates include Trailer Assist, Predictive Pedestrian Protection, Blind Spot Detect, Maneuver Assist and Crew Protect Assist.
