Indian-Origin Sabih Khan Named Apple’s New Chief Operating Officer

Date:

In a major shift in Apple’s leadership, Indian origin executive Sabih Khan has been appointed as the company’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

On July 8, Apple announced that Indian-origin executive Sabih Khan, born in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, in 1966, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) later this month, succeeding Jeff Williams, 62. Williams, stepping down as COO, will remain at Apple, reporting to CEO Tim Cook, and will focus on leading the design team, Apple Watch, and health initiatives, according to a company press release.

Khan, who spent his childhood in Singapore before moving to the U.S., holds a bachelor’s in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and a master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Joining Apple in 1995 after working at GE Plastics, Khan has served nearly three decades, most recently as Senior Vice President of Operations. He has been pivotal in shaping Apple’s supply chain, driving advanced manufacturing, U.S. expansion, and environmental sustainability.

CEO Tim Cook praised Khan, stating, “Sabih is a brilliant strategist who has been one of the central architects of Apple’s supply chain.”

He continued, “While overseeing Apple’s supply chain, he has helped pioneer new technologies in advanced manufacturing, overseen the expansion of Apple’s manufacturing footprint in the United States, and helped ensure that Apple can be nimble in response to global challenges.” Cook also highlighted Khan’s role in pushing forward Apple’s “ambitious efforts in environmental sustainability.”
