Indian equity markets rebounded sharply on Monday, snapping a five-session losing streak, as easing tensions between the United States and Iran led to a decline in crude oil prices, lifting investor sentiment.
The BSE Sensex surged 776.01 points, or 1.02 per cent, to close at 76,835.78, while the NSE Nifty gained 228.50 points, or 0.96 per cent, to settle at 23,995.95.
Broad-based buying was witnessed across sectors, with all major sectoral indices ending in the green. Nifty IT emerged as the top performer, advancing 2.34 per cent, followed by Nifty Realty, which climbed 2.28 per cent.
Lower crude oil prices, a positive development for India’s import-dependent economy, coupled with favourable global cues, supported the market rally. Brent crude was trading at around USD 87.72 per barrel, while WTI crude hovered near USD 82.12 per barrel.
Among Sensex gainers were Eternal, IndiGo, Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints, Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC, Titan, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, BEL, Reliance Industries, Adani Ports, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ITC, SBI, Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Suzuki and Trent.
HDFC Bank, Power Grid Corporation and Axis Bank were the only major laggards during the session.
