Sensex Rises 166 Points, Nifty Closes Above 24,380 As Financial Stocks Lead Gains

Indian benchmark equity indices ended higher on Friday, extending their gains for the week amid positive market momentum led by financial and auto stocks.

The BSE Sensex settled at 78,094.64, up 166.49 points or 0.21 per cent, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 66.45 points or 0.27 per cent to close at 24,383.60.

Financial stocks emerged as the top performers, with Bajaj Finance surging 8.32 per cent, Bajaj Finserv rising 6.37 per cent and Jio Financial Services gaining 3.71 per cent. Mahindra & Mahindra, Shriram Finance and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles also ended the session in positive territory.

Technology stocks, however, witnessed selling pressure after their recent rally. TCS fell 2.71 per cent, Eternal declined 2.58 per cent and Wipro slipped 1.38 per cent. Adani Enterprises and Tata Consumer Products also ended lower.

Among Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged 3.92 per cent, while Taiwan’s Weighted Index gained 7.39 per cent. Singapore’s Straits Times index, however, declined 0.79 per cent.

In the commodities market, Brent crude oil was trading 0.52 per cent higher at USD 87.33 per barrel, while gold prices slipped 1.16 per cent to USD 4,055.78.
