New Delhi: Rainfall lashed parts of Delhi on Thursday afternoon, bringing a major respite from the hot weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR today. According to the weather report, more rain is expected overnight.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 29.7 degrees Celsius this morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms. IMD predicted intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across Delhi-NCR on Friday.
IMD will experience partly cloudy to generally cloudy skies over the next few days. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40-50 kmph, with occasional gusts touching 60 kmph.
IMD has forecast moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Chennai and its suburban areas during the next 24 hours, offering relief to residents from the prevailing hot weather conditions.
Heavy rain has been forecast for Tenkasi and Tirunelveli districts, besides the hilly and adjoining regions of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts.
The monsoon has finally arrived in India. Marking the official start of the June–September rainy season, the southwest monsoon has made its onset over Kerala.
With rainfall activity increasing across several regions, weather conditions are expected to remain favourable for further precipitation. Delhi-NCR is likely to witness intermittent rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds, while Chennai and surrounding areas are also expected to receive moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours.
Heavy rain warnings remain in place for several districts of Tamil Nadu, including Tenkasi and Tirunelveli, as well as the hilly and adjoining regions. The arrival of the southwest monsoon over Kerala marks the beginning of the country’s annual June–September rainy season.
