IMD Forecast Brings Relief From Heatwave With Rain Storms Across North India

Date:

A dramatic shift in weather across North India is offering much-needed relief from scorching heatwave conditions, as rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds sweep through key regions including Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Jammu.

The sudden change, driven by active weather systems, has not only cooled temperatures but also raised alerts for storms and possible disruptions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected across several northern states over the coming days. Areas including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir are likely to witness continued weather activity.

IMD noted that recent spells of rain and thunderstorms have already brought noticeable respite, with maximum temperatures dropping by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in many parts of North India. This comes after days of intense heatwave conditions that had gripped the region, pushing temperatures significantly above normal levels.

Forecasts indicate that this relief may persist, with more showers and storm activity expected in the coming days. Wind speeds during thunderstorms could reach 30 to 40 kmph, while dust storms are also likely in parts of Rajasthan and adjoining areas.

The changing weather pattern is largely attributed to a western disturbance affecting the western Himalayan region. As a result, hilly states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive scattered rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning.

Meanwhile, IMD has also warned of varied weather conditions across the country. While North India experiences temporary cooling, northeastern states are likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall, and parts of eastern India may face strong winds and thundersqualls.

Despite the current relief, weather experts caution that heatwave conditions could return after this brief spell of rain subsides. For now, however, the showers have brought a welcome break, easing discomfort for residents and improving conditions for daily life across several northern states.
