Telugu Film Producers Council (TFPC) Halts Sunday Film Shoots in Tribute to Ramoji Rao

Date:

The sudden demise of Ramoji Rao, the visionary head of the ETV Network and Ramoji Film City, has sent shockwaves through the media and entertainment industry. Rao, aged 87, passed away today while undergoing treatment in Hyderabad, where he was rushed after experiencing high blood pressure and breathlessness on June 5. Despite efforts, he couldn’t be saved and breathed his last in the early hours of the day.

His contributions to journalism, literature, and cinema have left an indelible mark on the Indian cultural landscape. Born in 1936, Rao was the driving force behind the Ramoji Group, which includes the world-renowned Ramoji Film City. His leadership also extended to the Eenadu newspaper, a prominent Telugu-language daily, and the production company Ushakiran Movies, where he produced around 50 films and telefilms, winning accolades like the National Award and two Filmfare awards.

In 2016, Rao received the prestigious Padma Vibhushan for his outstanding contributions to journalism, literature, and education. This honor underscored his immense impact and influence across various domains.

His passing has not only left a void in the media and entertainment sector but has also impacted the political realm, particularly during the rise of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the 1980s, where support from the Eenadu newspaper group played a significant role.

As word of his passing spread, condolences poured in from all corners. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, saying, “The passing of Shri Ramoji Rao Garu is deeply saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films. Through his remarkable efforts, he set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world.”

Celebrities from the film industry also paid their respects. Rajinikanth, describing Rao as his ‘guide and inspiration,’ highlighted his monumental contributions to journalism, cinema, and politics. Similarly, Mahesh Babu praised Rao’s visionary approach and the legacy he leaves behind.

The Telugu Film Producers Council (TFPC) and Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) announced the suspension of all film shoots on Sunday as a mark of respect, bringing the industry to a standstill in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states.

Ramoji Rao’s last rites will be conducted with state honors, a fitting tribute to a man whose life’s work has left an indelible impact on Indian cinema, journalism, and culture. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
