Mumbai – The Baisakhi Special episode of Wheel of Fortune featured Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar discussing the importance of Seva, or selfless service, while participating in the show alongside contestants Sadeev Singh, Gurpreet Singh Tikku, and Karandeep Singh.
During the episode, Akshay Kumar spoke about the universal value of service, saying, “Duniya ka har dharm ye hi sikhata hai, ki seva hi sab se bada dharm hai.” He highlighted the Punjabi community’s approach to serving others, adding, “Hum Punjabi log seva badi shaan se karte hai,” and described the tradition observed in Gurudwaras: “Aap kahi bhi Gurudware chale jaao, aap ko chhote bachche se lekar bade buzurg tak sab aap ko seva karte nazar aayenge.”
He also acknowledged the Sikh community’s role during crises. Reflecting on past events, he said, “Jab bhi maine dekha hai, jab bhi koi mushkil mein aate hai, toh hamari Sikh community sabse aage hoke unki madad karne nikal padti hai.” Referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, he added, “Mujhe yaad hai jab duniya corona se lad rahi thi, tab yeh humari Sikh community ne oxygen langar shuru kiya tha. Hospital ke bed se lekar oxygen supply tak aap log sab karte the.”
He also noted the community’s global efforts: “Yaha tak ki puri duniya mein aapne darwaze khule the, quarantine centers banane ke liye Gurudware khule the.” On their response to natural disasters, he said, “Kahi bhi dekh lo… koi tufaan aaye, baadh aaye, bhukamp aaye. Sikh logon ki madad sabse pehle jaati hai.”
Summing up his remarks, Akshay Kumar said, “Main kehta hoon, ‘Jaha pe Sikh, vaha pe seva; jaha pe seva, vaha pe Sikh’.” The episode ended with him distributing prasaad to contestants and viewers, marking Baisakhi with a focus on service and community values.
