James Cameron’s much-awaited sci-fi epic ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 24, giving audiences another opportunity to revisit the breathtaking world of Pandora. According to Variety, the third installment in the globally successful Avatar franchise will now stream for viewers worldwide following its blockbuster theatrical run.

Directed by James Cameron, the film continues the story of Jake Sully and his family as they confront a dangerous new Na’vi tribe, introducing fresh conflicts and emotional challenges on Pandora. The movie stars Sam Worthington in the lead role alongside returning cast members Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Bailey Bass, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion and Edie Falco. Actors Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis also joined the franchise with new roles.
The film first released in theatres on December 19 and quickly emerged as one of the biggest box office hits of the year. Variety reported that ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ has already earned around $1.4 billion globally, making it one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing films of 2025. The movie also joined Disney blockbusters Lilo & Stitch and Zootopia 2 in crossing the prestigious $1 billion milestone worldwide.
With the latest success, Cameron’s Avatar franchise has officially become the highest-grossing film trilogy of all time. The original Avatar released in 2009 and remains the highest-grossing movie in global box office history, earning more than $2.9 billion worldwide. Its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, released in 2022 and collected approximately $2.3 billion globally.
James Cameron has already mapped out the future of the franchise. The fourth Avatar film is expected to release in 2029, while the fifth installment is scheduled for 2031. The filmmaker has also revealed that the upcoming movies will continue exploring the Sully family’s journey along with several new characters introduced in ‘Fire and Ash’.
