Charli XCX Refuses Name Change as She Expands Acting Career and New Music Era

Date:

Singer and actor Charli XCX is making a bold transition into Hollywood while firmly rejecting the idea of changing her stage name for acting roles, even as she expands her presence across multiple film projects this year. The pop star, born Charlotte Emma Aitchison, is stepping deeper into cinema while continuing to evolve her artistic identity.

According to People, the 33-year-old artist confirmed that she had briefly considered adopting her real name professionally for acting but ultimately decided against it, sticking to her globally recognised persona.

“I spoke to a couple of people about whether I should change that. I’m on the fence about it. Charli Aitchison is not super-popping, though,” she said, as per People.

When asked directly if she would ever use her birth name in the industry, she was clear in her response. “Oh, I’m never gonna be Charlotte. Come on.”

Charli XCX is set to appear in several upcoming film projects, including I Want Your Sex, The Moment, Erupcja, and a remake of Faces of Death. Her growing film slate marks a significant expansion beyond her established music career, positioning her as one of the latest pop stars crossing into mainstream acting.

She also opened up about the challenges of stepping into acting for the first time, admitting that she initially felt uncertain and out of place on set. However, she said the experience eventually became creatively rewarding as she adapted to a new environment and learned from established filmmakers and actors.

“It can be scary to leave something behind that you’re known for, then risk it all trying to do something else,” she said, referring to her music career, adding that she feels eager to learn from actors and directors she admires.

Alongside her acting ventures, Charli XCX is also working on her eighth studio album. She revealed that she is exploring a stylistic shift following the success of her album Brat, hinting at a move away from dance-heavy sounds.

“I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music,” she said, adding that she is looking to create something more “internal” and “quiet” for her next project, according to People.
