The long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada has made a powerful global debut, releasing in theatres worldwide on May 1 and quickly earning strong reviews alongside an impressive box office run.
Christopher Nolan has praised The Devil Wears Prada 2 after watching it during its opening weekend. The filmmaker also spoke about working again with Anne Hathaway, while mentioning Emily Blunt, both of whom he has collaborated with in the past.
Speaking on The Late Show, Nolan was asked if he had seen the sequel. “I watched it last night. It was fabulous, with Emily Blunt as well. It was terrific,” he said.
Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the sequel reunites Hathaway and Blunt as Andy Sachs and Emily two decades after the original film. It also brings back Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci in their iconic roles as Miranda Priestly and Nigel.
The ensemble cast also includes Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B. J. Novak, and Conrad Ricamora. Returning cast members Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles as Lily and Irv.
The story follows Andy Sachs as she returns to Runway magazine, where she once again works under the formidable Miranda Priestly. The film has received widespread critical acclaim and opened strongly at the global box office, crossing $200 million in its first weekend. It reportedly became profitable within 24 hours and even overtook Michael at the North American box office.
Meanwhile, Nolan’s own cinematic slate continues to expand. His upcoming film The Odyssey, a large-scale adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic, features Matt Damon and Hathaway in lead roles, alongside Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on July 17, 2026.
With strong performances, franchise nostalgia, and global box office dominance, the sequel marks one of the most successful entertainment launches of the year so far.
