Washington DC: DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation have unveiled a new slate of animated projects, including DC Studios’ first-ever anime series, “Joker: Laugh Riot,” Scott Snyder’s take on “Absolute Batman,” and a new “Krypto” animated series by “SpongeBob” alum C.H. Greenblatt, according to Variety.
Helmed by “ChaO” award-winning director Yasuhiro Aoki, who previously worked on Warner Bros. Animation and Sola’s joint feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” “Joker: Laugh Riot” follows the Joker as he launches a ruthless crusade through Gotham’s underworld to find Batman’s killer, who took away his greatest adversary and, incidentally, his own kill.
As his violent search continues, Joker is pushed closer toward becoming a vigilante than a villain and is forced to confront the truth that without Batman, he does not know who he is.
Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios also announced that a new “Krypto” animated series has been greenlit. Created by “Chowder” and “Jellystone” creator-writer C.H. Greenblatt, the series follows Krypto as he joins a gang of misfit criminal wannabes living nearby. Together, they stumble through misadventures and poorly planned schemes, while Krypto’s pure-hearted nature gradually redeems them.
The studios also shared updates on several upcoming adult, young adult and children’s projects. Fan-favourite series “Creature Commandos” and “Batman: Caped Crusader” received enthusiastic responses, with the latter set to launch on Prime Video on July 31.
Author Tom King, speaking about “Mister Miracle,” said, “Today, as animation keeps reaching new heights, I am deeply convinced we can create our own ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Sopranos,’ ‘Mad Men’ level shows. And I’m truly happy to bring ‘Mr Miracle’ to the screen.”
The announcement also confirmed that the tenth season of “Teen Titans Go,” now DC’s longest-running show, is currently in production.
