Mumbai: Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has returned to the culinary space after nearly three decades with Khana Dil Se, India’s first AI-powered cooking show, now streaming for free on the Terribly Tiny YouTube channel.
Known for the iconic Khana Khazana, Mehta’s latest venture blends food, nostalgia, emotions and storytelling with artificial intelligence-driven visuals.
The debut episode, which runs for 10 minutes, centres on the traditional Gujarati dish Undhiyu and explores the harvest celebrations of the Koli community. Through emotional narration and flashback sequences, the episode connects viewers to cultural roots and memories, while also showcasing the preparation of chaas.
The visuals notably feature wrinkled hands preparing the dish, symbolising the warmth of elderly home cooking.
The series has been created by Hansal Mehta in collaboration with Chef Shamsher Ahmed, while AI technology for the show has been developed by Galleri5. Khana Dil Se is produced by Vijay Subramaniam of Collective Studios and Sahil Sehgal of True Story Films.
The show marks a unique blend of tradition and technology, using AI not just for presentation but also to enhance storytelling around recipes and heritage. While only one episode has been released so far, the show has already generated buzz online, with its IMDb rating still awaited.
