Aamir Khan has dismissed allegations linking his interfaith marriages to “love jihad”, saying the claims are baseless and do not reflect his family’s values. The actor recently married longtime partner Gauri Spratt in a private ceremony at his Mumbai residence on July 5.
Speaking to Rediff, Aamir said his family has a long history of interfaith marriages that were based on mutual respect rather than religious conversion. He added that his sisters, daughter and cousin are all married to people from different faiths.
The actor clarified that neither his former wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, nor his current wife, Gauri Spratt, converted their religion before marriage. According to Aamir, all three marriages were conducted under civil law.
He also revealed that Gauri is a Christian by birth and is not a practising Christian. Calling the controversy unnecessary, Aamir remarked that such accusations have become increasingly absurd over time.
Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002 and later to filmmaker Kiran Rao from 2005 until their separation in 2021. He introduced Gauri to the public during his 60th birthday celebrations after the two rekindled a friendship that dates back nearly 25 years.
The couple reportedly reconnected through Aamir’s cousin, Nuzhat Khan, in Bengaluru and were in a relationship for over two years before tying the knot. Their intimate wedding was attended by around 150 guests, including family, close friends and several well-known personalities from the film industry and public life.
